UPDATE: SDG Summit 2019 and Global Partnerships
The SDG Summit on September 24 and 25, 2019 was the first Summit of the United Nations General Assembly since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda in September 2015. At the Summit, the Political Declaration – “Gearing up for a decade of action and delivery for sustainable development” – was adopted. It entails the commitment of the Heads of State and Government and high representatives to eradicate poverty in all its forms, leave no one behind, and to recall that the 2030 Agenda is universal in nature and that its goals and targets are integrated and indivisible.
The launched Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR) provided the evidence base. It highlights megatrends such as population and economic growth as well as climate change, affecting the implementation of the SDGs by 2030. In this context, global, innovative partnerships, such as Multi-Stakeholder-Partnerships (MSPs), channeling their stakeholders’ knowledge, expertise, innovations, and financial resources, are perceived as crucial to accelerate the achievement of the 2030 Agenda. Inclusion, participation, and leveraging of all stakeholders are the key to success.
