Ziele für nachhaltige Entwicklung (SDG)

Ambitiously avoiding and reducing greenhouse gases and offsetting them by sponsoring high-quality projects is the central focus of all their activities. Currently, unavoidable greenhouse gas emissions are offset in areas where they have the greatest impact on development: in high-quality climate protection projects in countries of the Global South. Supporters of the Alliance thus make it clear that climate protection is a global challenge that must include global perspectives.

Since 2020, the Alliance has been supported and further developed by the eponymous Foundation. Its supporters help to create a better and more climate-friendly world. The Foundation operates in partnership with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), which initiated the Development and Climate Alliance in 2018.

How does the Development and Climate Alliance achieve its objectives?

As an independent platform, the Alliance informs, advises, networks and promotes exchange. It publishes studies and provides a comprehensive range of educational and guidance services aimed at all those interested in sustainable development, climate protection and voluntary greenhouse gas offsetting. For supporters of the alliance, it offers its own events.

How does the Development and Climate Alliance work as a partnership?

Supporters of the Development and Climate Alliance have access to a comprehensive range of educational, advisory and guidance services. In networking and exchange formats, the supporters contribute with their perspectives and foster peer-to-peer learning. In this way, they help to steer the direction of the Alliance and participate in a dialogue on development and climate between private sector, politics and civil society.

The Development and Climate Alliance also offers its supporters an independently verified label. The SDGold label is awarded to organizations which are committed to sustainable development. This means that they are committed to development and climate in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is measured in five steps. With the awarded label, organizations may transparently communicate their commitment.

How is the Development and Climate Alliance funded?

The Development and Climate Alliance is an independent non-profit organization. It was founded by the KfW Group on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The activities of the Alliance for Development and Climate are funded by the assets of the foundation’s capital, as well as by donations and other revenue.

For interested actors, becoming a supporter of the Alliance is free of charge.
