Event: Initiative for Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chains hosts High Level Meeting on Living Income and Living Wage
The event of the Initiative for Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chains (INA) on living wages will take place on 21 June, 13.30 – 17.00 CET as a face-to-face event in Berlin and can also be followed via livestream.
The event organised by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) takes place in the context of the EU’s proposed legislation on corporate due diligence, which includes an article requiring “adequate living wages”. This is to be anchored as an important approach for European companies and retailers to minimise human rights risks in supply chains. The German and Dutch governments have already signed a joint declaration on this.
With the theme “Towards living incomes and wages – how can governments and the private sector work together?”, there will be programme segments with different actors. In the introductory programme, the concept of a living wage and related guidance documents, including from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO), will be presented. In the subsequent panel discussion, Svenja Schulze, German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, and Liesje Schreinemacher, Dutch Federal Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, will speak with other government representatives from producing and consuming countries as well as representatives of the private sector and civil society.
You can find the programme and the livestream here.
